Internships are a valuable part of our curriculum, providing students with an opportunity to explore interests, hone skills, and build connections in the community. SOC/ANTH 305 is a 4-hour course offered in the Spring semester only. Weekly classroom seminar meetings focus on career exploration and preparation for professional life. There is a prerequisite of 12 hours of sociology and/or anthropology. Grading is S/U. For students who would be interested in meeting the Sociology senior capstone requirement with an internship, the department also now offers SOC 405 Sociology Internship Project.
Students must be proactive in securing their internship location and supervisor prior to the beginning of the course in the Spring semester. To help them in this process there are required meetings and helpful events offered the preceding Fall semester. These include advising meetings with the internship course instructor, meeting with the Career Center, and on-campus employer fairs which will help familiarize students with local agencies.
